2009/10 SPRINT CAR SPECIFICATIONS & RULES March 2009

 

 

 

 

The focus and the main theme is "Dirt Cars" racing on pavement and that will be what the Scrutineer will assess in all interpretations of the rules.

 

1 LOCATION: Motor must be located at least 7" from the bottom frame rails to the center of the crankshaft. Cars must be no more than 39" or 40" cars with minimum wheel base of 86" to 96". All cars are required to have a "belly pan" made of Aluminum under engine or use a "engine diaper" must be used for pavement racing to prevent oiling down the track. This pan should be mounted at front of motor and extend back to rear motor plate and outward to each frame rail. The Idea here is we are racing Dirt Cars on Pavement.  

2 POSITION: Motor must be in the center of the frame and in front of the driver in the normal "Dirt" position which is 7" from the crank centerline to bottom the of chassis. Ask if you do not know what that is. No driver cockpit adjustable weight or wedge adjusting devices allowed. No computer controlled or hydraulically controlled traction or weight adjusting devices allowed! No on board computers other than ignition. Please bear in mind we are a "torsion bar" only dirt car series that races on both dirt and pavement with the exception of the Bandit chassis which will be allowed for a limited period.

3 OFFSETS: The outermost point of the right rear wheel may not be MORE THAN 41" from the center of the rear end! The outside side of the left rear tire may not be LESS THAN 30" from center of the rear end! Right Side mounted Jacobs Ladder or W-Link will be mandated so it is advised to install one mounted to the rear-end and extending out to the chassis to the right side. This length must be a minimum of 13-5/8 " and a maximum of 14- 5/8". Front axel width will be maximum 51" wide with 1" offset. Front Panhard Rod must be no shorter than 17".  NO REAR PANHARD BARS. Side rails must be within 1” of the of the outer part of the tires.

4 WINGS: Wings are 25 square Ft. with 30" side boards and 6 square Ft Nose Wings with 10" sides maximum. Wing must be mounted in the normal "Dirt" position. Top Wing must not hang over the Left Rear Tire. They must be even with the leading edge of the Left Rear Tire (No Tolerance) There is a 1 " Wicker Bill permitted only on inside rear of the center portion of the Wing.  Cars with external runners better have them centered on chassis roll bars. No offset slots in internal runners. You may use hydroulic cockpit adjustable wings.

5 WHEELS: Must be aluminum only, Fronts will be no wider than 10" and Right Rear will be no wider than 18", Left Rear will be no wider than 15".

6 TIRES: The American Race Tires are the only tires that are allowed,  Only those  tires purchased from Pantech  Autos are allowed.

7 BRAKES: There must be no more than 4 working brakes on all cars. However 3 working brakes are acceptable with 2 fronts and 1 rear inboard. If you choose 4 working brakes there will be 2 brakes in front, 1 on left rear or 1 on right rear and 1 inboard (rear). There must be a inboard working brake. Duel Master-Cylinders are allowed. Steel Rotors are recommended with aluminum calipers. 4 piston calipers are allowed. Maximum rotor size will be .375 front and 810 rear period. Minimum rotor size will be .300. The .300 rule is in lieu of safety. . Brake lines must be steel braided or steel inward lines.
